Has the Pied Piper visited Colerne?

Postby Henry » Wed Jul 22, 2009 11:45 pm

The Community Network seems to be very quiet.
If anyone is listening (or reading), do you know if a short sighted Pied Piper has been through the village recently, and led away a good slice of the adult population?
Maybe when the changeover to digital happens, and Colerne has to dump its valve sets, there might be a surge of interest!
I confess to not being an avid network follower, but lately it only takes a couple of minutes to completely update.

Piper at the gates of darwn

Postby Chris Ricketts » Thu Jul 30, 2009 9:55 am

[font="Garamond"][SIZE="4"]As someone who doesn’t live in or any ware near the village, but whose ancestors did and may still do; I have watched it with interest, the only replies I have had to my questions about them has been from other people who don’t live in the village.
It’s not a piper, its apathy, you have there I am sorry to say!

Hello Chris,
You've noticed it too! Do you think someone should risk a walk through the village? If I could borrow a donkey so as be inconspicuous, I might take a chance.

Getting nearer

Postby Henry » Sun Aug 02, 2009 11:26 am

I have just been offered a Goat for my village walk, but as you can't have a sensible conversation with a Goat, I have declined.
It was suggested that if I'm offerred a donkey, I might make the walk on Palm Sunday. After some thought I decided this would be unwise, when the village is watched over by a one handed church clock, it's sensible to be a little cautious (and vicar Val won't be around to put my case).

Why don't you greet the fellow Colerne Trampers, what tend to walk through the village thinking they own every road they walk on, i'm sure they'd like to take a stroll down there.

Who are the Colerne Trampers?

Postby Henry » Sat Aug 22, 2009 2:07 am

Hello Butter
Although I detect a hint of possessiveness in your message (seems a disease these days, everyone watching everyone else), I am heartened to hear that the feet of the Colerne Trampers still "tend to walk" the roads of Colerne. Although having never met any, I send greetings to them. I would call myself more of a trampler, and erstwhile roller (off road of course, and in younger days!). When you say "tend to walk", are you hinting that they usually start from The Six Bells? I am also wondering whether the Pied Piper might have come through disguised as a tramper (you would have no doubt easily seen through that, so please let me know), which could have taken a lot of people by surprise.
Henry.
p.s. I've given up on the Donkey, I think they must all be in the Churchyard.

Do excuse me! I don't know what you're implying 'possessiveness'. Yes i do watch other people its called being nosey, you also can't help it when you look out of the window and find 10 or so people carrying sharp walking sticks! The Tramps of colerne do not congregate at the Six bells, as of what i've been told there usual meeting point is outside the Manor house drive way. I doubt very highly that he didn't come disguised as the 'pied piper', but that is something maybe you should look into!

The mystery deepens

Postby Henry » Tue Aug 25, 2009 12:28 am

Hello Butter
I can see you are smart enough to understand what's said (and no messing).
Thanks for the information on the Tramps of Colerne, I shall know where to avoid now. I (almost) always walk alone, I can poke around and see more that way (and when I say where I'm going, people always seem to have something important to do).
So you think there may be another mystery intruder who didn't come disguised as a Pied Piper? Well that's a turn up for the book! I will certainly keep my eyes peeled for that one, could be nasty!
Would I be right (from your stout defense) to think that you may be an occasional patron of the Six Bells?
